PS3

well, the PS3 was released last week and already ppl are shooting and robbing others to get their hands on it... and even selling them on ebay for a million bucks... seriously.

what has this country come to where a stupid game system could EVER be worth MORE than anything else we buy?!

You just don't get it.

I was thinkin' about camping out last night at the local Best Buy for the release of the Nintendo Wii...

...the call of the bottles of Red Stripe beer I recently acquired, a warm bed, and a computer that doesn't have a battery life... was just too much.

Man .. can we say retarded much?

I don't get it either Alicia, I mean i'm all for game consoles but not when it comes to the point that you are waiting outside, camping at the front of a store in cold temps with your small children - this happened the other night, a friend of mine went to the mall in OKC while I was on the phone to him and was telling me about it - he said there were evern a few people there with kids under 1 ... to me that is just sad.

God forbid they wait a few months where the price goes down so they are not going without things to have it and a few more of the bugs have been worked out ... ahh but alas it's in peoples nature to ... Want it and want it NOW - sad really!

I will get a Wii eventually, but the desire to camp out was because I really like to camp. Simple as that. *heh-heh*

A fair amount of the people that camped out are turning around and selling them on ebay... for a marked up price of course.

Yes, it is crazy that it has gotten as bad as people resorting to violence over a game system. Still this is a monumental moment. This is something that only happens once every five years.

I am a Nintendo Boy, I have owned every Nintendo console and don't plan on stopping the tradition anytime soon.

Poor John, nintendo hasn't been good since the super nes, and Nothing tops the nes. I personally ALWAYS wait at least a year before buying a new system, it helps get bugs worked out and lets the price drop a bit. Let's not forget all the issues the ps2 had upon its release. As for camping to buy something, I did it once for the first LoTR movie.

Sorry, I like games with originality and soul.

Besides, Mario Kart was reason enough to get any of the last three Nintendo systems.

oh brother.... kids are so fucked up because of poor parenting. Not video game consoles or the parents that like them. "God forbid" that parents have a desire to do something they enjoy /sarcasm]. So what if they campout, live a little.

As for the PS3 - it's the same shit as a new star wars movie. People are obsessed - and if I had the cash to dish out on this I would be in line too!

Nintendo WII will kick ass too

it's easy to see why people are going to such lengths to get one. Just like the 360 when it came out, there weren't that many being released and since it was close to the holidays, people would spend massive amounts of money for one. it's a simple "I have one and you don't" mentality or "my son/daughter/husband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend MUST have it for christmas". Me, I definitely want a PS3, but I'm gonna wait until next year like a smart person. but if you really want to understand why people are so hard up for these systems, just check out the playstation 3 site and read up on the stats. it's a beast.

and as messed up as it sounds, I'm surprised none of the other lines were hit like it was up in Conn. I mean, those would-be thieves had it right. all those people in line to buy a $500-600 system. definitely makes it a tempting target.

poor parenting = parents allowing their kids to sit on their ever-widening asses in la-la land for hours on end instead of, oh i dont know, going outside, interacting with each other, reading....

poor parenting = parents sitting on THEIR ever-widening asses ignoring their families for hours on end....

ive seen both parents and kids waste away on that crap... enjoying something is one thing, but OBSSESSING over it is quite another.

there are people who have been KILLED and robbed for this console. so, um, yeah excuse me for thinking its a tad bit rediculous.

yeah, there's a big difference between obsessing and enjoying. Me, I'm a gamer and I enjoy playing video games. but it never has been the sole motivation of my day outside of work/school. I went outside, rode my bicycle, played basketball n' whatnot. But with most parents today, apathy's become to word of the day. But you can't blame the video games because the parents don't want to deal with their children. Video games are just like any vice in life. it's only good in moderation. but I agree with Gabriel, if they want to sit outside for days on end so they can pick up a PS3, that's their business. It's no different than all the star wars fans camping out for tickets to a movie.

but as I said, very few people got it, a ton of people wanted it. covetting and envy. so, it doesnt' surprise me to hear about the killing and stealing. yes, it's ridiculous. but it's a very old story.

Poor parenting.. enough said.. Don't blame it on the games.. Ive seen people waste away at fast food restaurants too.. forgive them for eating. forgive the people at a convenient store that provide you with service 24 hours a day and get hit by local robbers. damn those ridiculous idiots for working through the night and the people that fall victim to it. :/ - just another judgemental tantrum. :P

Like loney said.. That ps3 right now is worth quite the cash - just like if you were robbed of a car. Its life, unfortunately we must deal with it.

Back to topic though!

Wii is looking quite impressive! looking forward to those controls!

um, yeah ok. somehow im not even inclined to justify this with a response...apparently my point flew right over your head.

other than, if you want to stay on topic- its about the PS3, not the WII.

What he said.

Video games are a form of entertainment pure and simple. Nothing sinister there. Completely sperate from the issue of poor parenting techniques.

No, he got it... I think... had to read it a few times... I think he's agreeing with TheLoneOne.

It's a bit hard to seperate PS3 and Wii, with the two being released days from each other, similar news articles being released for each, the direction this thread is going, etc.

You made this thread, if you want it to be going in a different direction, you need to be a bit more specific in your desire.
