I struggled with where to put this at first because I am sure that people are going to have postitive and negative opinions on this writting. So if any mods feel it would be better suited to another place, please feel free to move it. For the rest, do you agree or disagree? Please be sure to respect each others opinions. Thanks.

This is an Editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa Newspaper. He did quite a job, didn't he?

I FEEL THAT IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, LEARN THE LANGUAGE!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.

If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle.

Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

I am an American, believe in the Constitution; the Bill of Rights, and honor and respect the flag of these United States. If you don't feel the same way, planes and ships are leaving our shores every day.

to be honest, I agree. if you go to another country, do you think that they're gonna start speakin my language? Hell no. they're gonna tell me to either learn the language or get the hell out. of course, that isn't the case here. Everybody's so quick to conform because some people are pitchin a bitch cuz we aren't being more accomadating. FUCK them! they come into this country, legally or otherwise, they need to know how to speak the language. we speak english, therefore, they should too.

and the thing about God in the pledge of allegiance n' whatnot. if someone doesn't believe in God, then why are they pitching a bitch about having God in the pledge and on the money. Ummm... if you don't believe it, then you shouldn't have a problem if someone else does. It's really just a contradiction. how can something that you believe doesn't exist bother you. Just another thing to bitch about. Oh well. Don't like it... there's the door, don't let it hit you in the ass on the way out.

I am not a Christian or a fundamentalist or right-wing extremist or even one that cares about much of any of that. But, however, I do agree. I've gotten this in many a email from family and friends and I read it everytime and agree.
I've dealt with many immigrants in a few of the places I've lived. Most of them are glad to have the chance to live in a country where they have the opportunity to make enough money to live, pay rent, buy enough food for a month off of one paycheck and still have some money to go out on the weekends. A few of them need to read this and understand what it means. They came here to live a life as an American, not a Mexican, not as a Guatamlan or as an Algerian (to name a few that I've met) but as an AMERICAN.
They complain daily about the religious aspects of life here, the lack of knowledge of their languages or the lack of this and that... while they sit there wearing American Mainstream clothing styles, listening to American Mainstream music and eating McDonald's.
The last group I dealt with like that, I told them simply what that says, If you don't like it, Leave. If it's so bad here, go back to what ever dark hole you came from. It may suck here for alot of ppl but they came here because where they originated from is a hell of alot worse. And yet they work, shop and ADAPT with a Smile.
'In God We Trust'... I don't. I don't believe in God. But, because I do believe in the power of community, in the power of people, I don't complain that it's on our money, that it's in the Pledge of Allegiance or that most of life in America has something or other to do with God. It's my right not to believe, just like it's Joe Blow's right to believe. So what. What do I do about it? What can I do about it? Simply not do anything and get on with my life. Just because it's on the money doesn't mean I'm going to stop spending it or working to earn it. Just because it was in the Pledge didn't mean I was going to quit school (when they had it in schools that was). And just because it's a part of American Life doesn't mean I'm going to renounce who and what I am. Fuck No. I love the country, although, I don't like what's going on most of the time. At least here we have the freedom to walk down the street with our wife or girlfriend or even a female friend and she's not covered from head to toe where all you can see is a sandle poke out when she walks or just her eyes when she's standing still. At least we can shave when we get to skraggly. At least we can berate the president without worrying about being shot or imprisoned.

Sorry... long night last night. Even longer day ahead. I kinda lost my head and went on tangent there.... Just using another Right I have as an American, I guess.

agreed fully. I mean come on isnt it easier for them to learn 1 language than to force an entire country to learn a hundred languages?? admitedly english isnt an easy language hell i live here and i dont even fully understand it sometimes lol. but come on at least learn enough to get by on (and for petes sake dont learn english from watching the 3 stooges or police academy movies or any other stupid tv shows lol....we have enough idiots in this country without importing more)

i pretty much agree with that.... although the paragraph:

rubbed me the wrong way. America started OUT as multicultural. we arent and werent all NATIVE Americans who spoke that language. The country WAS developed into what we are today BECAUSE of multi-culture. so, i thought that paragraph was a load of crap, imho.

and yes, we speak ENGLISH....but we dont speak NATIVE AMERICAN. so, really, we arent even speaking our OWN language.... its like saying its ok for us to steal England's language and make it our original... when it wasn't. its just that the MAJORITY of people who came to America, did.

and FYI, Christopher Columbus was an ITALIAN from italy.

I agree on all of it. For all I care you can be a terrorist in training or a mexicano who will work for a few pennies. If you can stand to work cheap or you know how to blow shit up, cool! The only thing I ask is learn english so when you talk to people who dont speak anything but english we can communicate smoothly. I'm not one of those dickheads that gets pissy when your walking around with your homies talking spanish. Just don't talk it to me cuz the only reply you get will have some severe explicitaves. As far as the whole in god we trust bit goes. Fuck it! It's been there for ever and a day let it be or you'll be paying tax money for the artist who has to redo all the damn money we got. And if your offended by the pledge, Good for you, I don't like it either but that's only because i had to say it every damn day all through school. SUMMARY: learn english and let shit be like everyone else does.

Ok..this is how I see it..Irish( whom I do not know anyone that speak the True Irish Lang. most everyone speaks English with a Irish Accent.)..ummm they got their asses sent here for being against the King. Most English Americans got here by being against the King..whom put the Irish down because thats how it was..Italians..Chris Columbus landed in the west indies or some crap like that..they just moved their way up north yet got stomped by the already Anti King George group...all going eventually to English because it was easier.. Mixing their own words into it. Spain they Sold the Louisiana Territory because they needed the money to fight the french....again I say Sold. Hell Russia sold us Alaska or so we are told. Mexico Lost Texas and California to the U.S. The Native Americans....Which I am one myself (and regretfully do not know my native tongue the way I should. but do know a few words to keep me into trouble if I want to.) all I am saying is One way or another... the Ancestors of those whom demand we speak their lang. Need to Realize that It was their Ancestors that A. Lost the Land do to War. B. Lost the Land because of Monitary means. C. Lost the Land because they Just plain gave up. I do not have to learn to speak Spanish...Just to please some Mexican who is moving here for a better life. I do not know. what does chinesse money say? Money From spain.... anything in referance to a deity in the Euro? I know this is the only country where they atleast pretend to give one a fair trial. innocent until Proven guilty.

There are some things I would personally liked to see changed...the first thing on my mind is this and I will end with it as well. In Europe and Canada there are places where women are not arrested for walking around topless but you see a woman in the states do that and she is going to jail for indecent expossier. Yet a man can work outside all day with out a shirt on. I have seen many guys out there in the world that have bigger breast than half of the women I know. Not a fun sight. That doesnt mean I want to see Brandon(gilgar)'s aunt Betty out side in a pool with out a top. if i go out in public i wear a tank usually.. but i think it should be fair. Equal Rights...If a man can do Yard work outside in the blazing heat with out a shirt on tanning while doing so then Women are just as Equal as men and should be allowed to work out in their yard with out a shirt. Hell I would give my 19 yr. old neighbor a beer and 20 bucks just like I do her twin Brother. to mow mine.
