My Mood: | Witchcraft The Book Recommendation thread by Wit got me thinking... dunno why I didn't post this sooner, but here we go. I'm interested in reading up on Wicca, witchcraft, magic, etc. Not sure how far I want to go with it, but I'd be interested to know if any of you can recommend some good beginner and intermediate books on the subject. I'm mostly interested in theories and protection spells for starters, then I'll see how I feel about delving in deeper. It seems like there might be some people here who have an interest and/or experience. If you don't want to discuss it in the thread, please PM me. Thanks!

My Mood: | Cool- could you give me the titles in case I don't see you in the near future? What made you stop, or have you just not been practicing much lately?

| One Very Hot Apple | i just became more agnostic, i have a lot of questions that still go unanswered and i am the most religiously confused person because of that and yes, i know that is where faith comes in, but thats not an answer to me. either way, paganism is a fascinating NON-organized religion and comes the closest to my own beliefs. i practiced solitary, because i preferred to do it alone and in my own way. i also practiced ecclectic wicca for the same reason that i cannot follow a certain path. here are some titles i can think of... i hope they help! The History of Wicca by Gerald Gardner Wicca: Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham To Ride a Silver Broomstick and Book of Shadows by Silver Ravenwolf even Complete Idiots Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft is good. whatever book you find, try to stick with a small, simple one at first that explains the religion without great detail, to give you an idea at first, or else it can be extremely overwhelming! also, www.witchvox.com is an excellent website with information local to your city as well. unfortunately, good wiccan books are difficult to come by in libraries, so the internet is good for information too. ![]()

My Mood: | Cool. Thanks, Alicia. I'm kind of in the same boat right now. Pretty much decided I was agnostic when I left home... but by definition that means I have an open mind and do believe that there is something out there- just not sure what. And don't want to label it... even if I could. I did find a few books at the local used bookstore, but didn't want to have to buy them all and sift through all the crap in between the pertinent info. I'll look for the ones you mentioned. Thanks again-- I miss ya! ![]()

| Brandon 1st Blood, Part 2 | Like everything else there is a dummy's book for this. Wicca and Witchcraft for Dummies. It's a good read but i decided It's not for me.

Do you mind sharing your reasons for the decision? I'm just brainpicking right now- feel free to say no if you don't want to elaborate. ![]()

My Mood: | Weird... in the last week or so since I've acquired some reading materials and been poking around online, I've had a couple of odd encounters. Last week, one of my coworkers was having a hard time peeling the price stickers off of their sheets (this particular type is a big pain in the ass compared to the ones we usually use), and I was getting through it a bit faster. English is her second language, and I don't think she has a huge grasp on American slang, but it completely threw me when she tapped me on ths shoulder and asked "What's Your Magic?" I'm sure she meant to ask if I had a special trick, but... Last night, I was coming inside from walking Harlan to his bus stop (yes I'm a geek that way) and one of my neighbors who happens to be a dreadlocked stoner with an herb garden between our two apartment buildings, asked me if I wanted some nightshade. I blinked twice and said "No, thanks," going inside. It could be that he was just being generous- that he's completely ignorant of my recent interests. But I looked up the plant tonight and, while there are various uses for it, the one that jumped out at me was astral projection, which is one of the huge reasons why I'm drawn to all things mystical. ![]() I just wonder what will happen when I actually read these books. |

My Mood: | Thanks, sweetie. I wasn't actually planning on using it- at least, not until I know what I'm doing. I just find it odd when strangers bring up personal things about me that they couldn't possibly know. But then, I see signs in everything. ![]() |
