My Mood: | It's done again! I need nerds! I just finished the second rough draft on Dark Ascendance. The story is now unified, and ready for readings. I need people who might be willing to read it and give me some feedback. Grammer advice sure, but mostly I'm looking for how well the story fits together. I'm amazed, considering I started this revision by removing the heavy 10,000 word first chapter and replacing it with a rewrite of the next chapter, I still came out 300 words higher than my previous word count. And I even fit in that crazy Oldsmobile Firenza that Derek used to make out with chicks in the back of. ![]()

My Mood: | Re: It's done again! I need nerds! Good lord I got sick today... Ok, call me wierd but I suddenly just got cold feet about sending electronic copies of this out over the internet. Not so much that I care that it can get out to anyone and I'd never make any money off of it... (quite the contrary, they're starting to show releasing this stuff for free on the net actually boosts book sales on titles that wouldn't otherwise be popular sells) But because if I want to get this published by a respectable publishing house, ebook rights are a dealbreaker, which I loose once the text hits the internet. The loophole is if I podcast it, but I'm impatient, and I'm not fully certain I have what I need to do that yet. So that leaves me with handing out printed manuscripts. And the book, at 8.5x11, is 167 pages. Taking it to Staples or something, at 5 cents a page, is going to cost $8.35 a copy. Which is kind of crazy. If I send it to just 10 people, thats $80 not including shipping out of my pocket. Which I think ought to be out of my pocket anyway since you guys are reading it for me, you're not exactly getting a final product... But I don't exactly have $80 either... My only other idea is to publish on demand through Lulu.com. They seem to be the cheapest, a little over $7 a copy at 8.5x11. And I dunno if the price of the cover is included in that, but they publish it with a cover, which would give me an opportunity to show off the awesome cover art I designed for it. But I dunno, I'm still leary of that. Basically I'd post the private link to where you guys could order it, and I wouldn't slap royaltees on it but I'm sure they charge shipping, and I have no idea what that is. So I dunno, it doesn't sit well with me, but neither does taking it to Staples. I could try and just print out as many copies as I can, but a black cartridge on my printer costs around $20, and I just ran out last night as I printed off a copy for myself. I'm not exactly sure how many copies I'd get out of a cartridge. It might be the same as just having copies made. So I dunno... Anyone have any other ideas? And if you are still interested, send me an email with your name, email addy, address and phone # at jmwright@vipertown.net. Not that I will call you, I'm terrified of phones. But I'm putting together a list of reviewers, mainly to get an idea of how many copies I'll need but also have anyones addresses should I need to mail out copies. Unless of course your local, in that case it would just be easier if you could come and get it from me...

My Mood: | Re: It's done again! I need nerds! Ok, I have a new idea. I'll do electronic copies... What I'm going to do is put an ID number on each page unique to each copy I send out, and keep a database of who has what. I'll send it in a digitally secure PDF file. That way you guys can print it off, and no one has to spend any money, and I don't have to worry about copies getting out. (not that I don't trust you guys, I just gotta cover my ass) And if you guys read it and find you want to recommend it to friends, tell them to email me and I'd be glad to send them a copy. There's really no limit. Basically you're getting a free preview of the entire book before publication. Who can beat that. ![]() What I'm going to do is do a soft copyright, send myself a sealed copy via certified snail mail, just to prove its mine. In the mean time I'll start generating the PDFs, and as soon as I get that sent off I'll start sending them out. So go ahead and email me if you're interested, and I'll forward you a copy. I'd kind of like to do a little QandA sheet too, so that may be tagged onto the end to help you guys with feedback. Sound good? ![]()
